Southeast Division Standings: Atlanta Thrashers Back Into Third Place

It's not third place by a lot, but if the Thrashers want to stay in a playoff position through the start of the New Year, they might want to look into winning their game tomorrow night against the Boston Bruins:

Atlanta's only two points behind Tampa Bay for the second slot, oddly thanks to the Boston Bruins - the very team that they'll need to defeat tomorrow. The game was tied 3-3 with just a minute and fifty seconds left, when Steven Stamkos was called for a boarding penalty on Gregory Campbell. Campbell, you might recall, is the son of Colin Campbell, League VP of Hockey Ops and head disciplinarian. Hockey fans already think that Greg Campbell gets preferential treatment (something that probably was confirmed when a blogger unearthed these e-mails from Campbell), and now Lightning fans can say that he cost them a point or two in a tough division - Mark Recchi scored on the powerplay to give the Bruins the win, 4-3.

Thank goodness for that eight point cushion between Atlanta and the Carolina Hurricanes.
