Atlanta Thrashers At New Jersey Devils: Bogosian, Modin Out; Meyer, Kane In As Devils Score First

Chris Mason is not a short man, but the Devils practically shot the puck in over his head for the first goal of the game. Mark Fayne scored his second of the year at just 1:18 on a slap shot that flew very very high glove side on Mason. Mason saw it, had his glove extended, and watched as it sailed over his hand.

Zach Bogosian is still banged up and was a game time decision to sit; Niclas Bergfors’ assist and strong play last night apparently convinced coach Craig Ramsay to keep him in the line-up tonight too, as Freddy Modin sits in favor of Evander Kane. Kane missed last night’s game to recover from an awkward knee-on-knee contact with Aaron Asham of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Devils got a powerplay when goaltender interference was called on Rich Peverley, who appeared to get his stick tangled in Johan Hedberg’s pads. No shots came from that powerplay, though Ilya Kovalchuk had a close call, pinging his shot off the post.
