Dustin Byfuglien managed to squeak a shot past Johan Hedberg at 12:14 of the third period for his fifteenth goal of the year, but the Moose was mightier tonight than his old team, stopping 28 of 29 shots on goal for the Devils second win in December and only the tenth time this season that they’ve scored more than two goals. Ilya Kovalchuk took a turnover at the blue line and converted it for his ninth goal of the season, flipping a shot over the pad of a prone Chris Mason.
Andrew Ladd and Rich Peverley both finished at a -3, both having a bit of a rough night. Chris Mason stopped 25 of 28 shots, ending with a .893 save percentage. Mason’s record is now 7-7-2, with a .896 SV% and a 3.66 GAA. As has been the case often this season, he’s allowed a soft goal, but still afforded the Thrashers more than enough chances to hop into the game. The Thrashers, especially Chris Thorburn, had many chances in the third period but couldn’t get a puck past Hedberg.
The Thrashers next play Sunday the 2nd at 1:00 in Montreal against the 8th place Canadiens.
