In a game that was much closer than the final score attests, the Flyers managed to score three goals (the final one an empty netter) against the Thrashers to take the match 5-2. The Thrashers’ four day hiatus didn’t seem to do a lot of good at giving them some pep in their step, as they took the game into the third period with momentum on their side and then drug their way through the third. Goals came from Danny Briere (his 24th of the season – a high for someone not in the All Star Game), Claude Giroux, and an empty netter from Jeff Carter.
The all-round effort has been improving since the 9-4 blowout loss to the Maple Leafs last Friday, but unfortunately standings aren’t figured that way. The Thrashers are still in 8th place in the Eastern Conference, and blew a chance to gain ground on both the Washington Capitals and the Tampa Bay Lightning tonight.
No rest for the wicked, as the Thrashers take on the Dallas Stars tomorrow night in Dallas. Chris Mason should be facing off against former Thrashers’ goaltender Kari Lehtonen. If you’re free and tired of cabin fever, head up to Rafferty’s in Kennesaw for a Thrashers Fan Club viewing party. $5 appetizers and $2.95 22 oz Miller Lights are your reward, as well as a good time with a bunch of fans.
