'Save The Thrashers' Rally Should Be Rescheduled To A More Atlanta Time

New, 8 comments

Update: The event has been rescheduled to Sunday. Its Facebook page should have more details soon.

That "Save the Thrashers" rallyorganized on Facebook and planned for the two hours before Friday night's 7:30 game, is going to be an embarrassment for Atlanta Thrashers fans unless it's pushed back to some time on the weekend, and preferably not this weekend. Besides the fact that its organizers are trying to put together a show of force in only a handful of days, there's quite possibly not a worse time to attempt to gather Atlantans than 5:30 p.m. on a Friday.

I'm not trying to belittle the effort or the spirit behind it. Any time a team threatens a move, this kind of thing sprouts up. Highly doubt any of them have ever succeeded, but a rally like this is on that Dylan Thomas swag anyway, so all that's beside the point.

All I'm saying is ... 5:30 p.m. in Atlanta on a Friday? With the traffic in this town? Not even joking -- I'd bet you could get better attendance at midnight on a Wednesday.

Winnipeg hockey fans want this rally to be as big of a flop as possible. Unless you guys don't want to crack triple digits, don't hold this thing right in the middle of rush hour.

And don't use that number of attendees on your Facebook page as justification for staying the course. More than half of those people are going to prove to be E-supporters, not participants. Again, that's not a comment on Atlanta's hockey devotion -- that's the reality of planning events like this anywhere for any cause.

Actually, clicking through the names, some of those attendees are Winnipeg trolls anyway, who've only recently acquired electricity in their state of Nova Scotia and sort of hope they'll actually get an NFL team as a part of the deal.
