NHL Standings, Southeast Division: Carolina Hurricanes Fall From Playoff Spot

The Carolina Hurricanes, the team that the Thrashers have been chasing for a while for a playoff position, are now in 9th place - one point behind the Buffalo Sabres. That doesn't mean that the game Atlanta has coming up against them isn't important, though - the team needs every single point they can get to survive. Says head coach Craig Ramsay, in possibly the biggest "no duh" quote of the year:

"We’ve played pretty well in there. We’ve come from behind. We’ve lost leads. We’ve done pretty much everything. We have to go in and just play a solid game. You can’t go in looking at the end result. You have to win looking at each shift. It would be great if we could win, get a good start, run some cycles, play in the offensive zone, show them that we are really coming to play. That’s got to be a key issue in everyone’s minds."

In other news, the Washington Capitals defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning last night, extending their Southeast Division lead - they haven't been in 1st place since December, so they're happy to return to the top.
