And now here's the moment we've been waiting for: the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Chris Vivlamore has reported the Atlanta Spirit Group and Winnipeg's True North Sports and Entertainment group are in talks about the sale and relocation of the Atlanta Thrashers.
Though everybody outside of the deal has a pretty clear expectation of the terms and results of this process -- the ASG will sell the Thrashers to True North for $170 million, $60 million of which will go to the NHL as a relocation fee -- it now remains to be seen what the two parties come up with, if the report is accurate.
A few reports had the Thrashers leaving town last Friday. Some had a deal being announced over the weekend. As we can see, those were all premature, but it may only be a matter of hours or days at this point.
