Former Atlanta Flames Goaltender Dishes On Atlanta Spirit's Ownership To TSN Radio

On the Atlanta Thrashers’ message boards there’s a transcript of Dan Bouchard’s interview with TSN Radio out of Toronto. He snapped a “let’s make fun of Atlanta” mood really quickly with some startling revelations regarding the treatment of the Flames alumni, his hiring on as goalie coach, why Marc Savard left the Thrashers, and even why the Flames were moved to begin with.

All that you have to do is read this account of the interview, and you’ll know exactly where the problems stem from here in Atlanta with the Thrashers. It’s not the team. It’s not the fans. It’s obviously the ownership group.

The biggest bombshell here is this:

He also said he met with Tom Glavine today and that Glavine has a group of corporate guys but it’s pretty near impossible to deal because ASG DOES NOT WANT A HOCKEY TEAM in the arena.

The idea behind why the ASG wouldn’t want a team giving them rent and concessions money 44 times a year is beyond me, especially when they could very well be the only ticket in town during the winter sports season next year. Looks like the next step to saving the Thrashers is ponying up some change to build an arena elsewhere.
