As doubt starts to set in about the various entities who've reportedly been trying to keep the Atlanta Thrashers in Georgia, a piece of Winnipeg's financial effort to relocate the team has been reported. To help pay that $60 million relocation fee, the Winnipeg Free Press' Bruce Owen reports True North will need the Manitoba government to assist with debt incurred from its ownership of the MTS Centre, the arena at which an imported Thrashers team would play.
The report also states Manitoba would be likely to accept such an arrangement, as the facility won't be leaving town should another Winnipeg team have to leave. Did you know facilities don't leave towns?
I doubt that's all that's standing in the way of the deal being completed and forwarded along to the NHL for approval, but how many other remaining pieces can there be? Could really use a break from typing about this story.
