Last week's 118-yard performance over Florida helped Georgia's freshman tailback move up to third in the SEC in rushing yards per game.

When the Georgia Bulldogs host the Ole Miss Rebels Saturday (3:30 p.m. ET on CBS) they will do so with one of the SEC's top rushers. After compiling his sixth 100-yard rushing performance (118 yards on 27 carriers) in last week's 17-9 victory over the Florida Gators, freshman tailback Todd Gurley is now ranked third in the league in rushing yards per game (92.5).

Gurley (6'1, 218 pounds) trails only Texas A&M Aggies quarterback Johnny Manziel (99.13) and Mississippi State Bulldogs' tailback LaDarius Perkins (95.25).

Last week, Gurley became the first running back to rush for more than 100 yards against Florida this season. Overall, Gurley is also second in the SEC in scoring (66 points) and all-purpose yards per game (130.0). The Tarboro, N.C. native has already been named the SEC Freshman of the Week three times this season.

The freshman has paired with another first-year player, running back Keith Marshall, to create maybe the best tandem in the country.

On Saturday, the Bulldogs will play their first home game after a month on the road. Georgia is two wins away from locking up its second straight Eastern Division title.

Panthers head coach and architect of the football program will be honored at halftime of Saturday's contest against Old Dominion.

Georgia State University will honor Bill Curry, the architect and head coach of the Panthers' football program, Saturday during a home contest with Old Dominion (3:30 p.m.). Curry, who's planning on retiring at season's end, will be honored in variety of ways according to Doug Roberson of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

After the team's 12 seniors are honored, Curry will receive a special presentation from University president Mark Becker and athletics director Cheryl Levick.

Curry's wife, Carolyn, will participate in the coin toss.

Georgia State's marching band will honor him by spelling out "Curry" in its pre-game formation.

During the game, tributes from Curry's former players, coaches and colleagues will be played on the Georgia Dome's video board.

The Georgia Lottery Corporation will give rally towels featuring Curry's signature to the first 3,000 fans through the gates.

A former headman for BCS programs like the Alabama Crimson Tide (1987-98) and Kentucky Wildcats ('90-96), Curry was picked as the Panthers first head coach in '08.

Since then, Curry has helped grow the football program helping them go 9-13 in his two previous seasons. This season, the Panthers have compiled a disappointing 1-8 overall record and will be looking to upset Old Dominion (7-1, 4-1 Colonial Athletic Conference) on Saturday.

If Curry can helped lead GSU past Old Dominion, it would be a staple win in a career field with a lot of accomplishments.

Also being honored Saturday will be 12 seniors who will all play their final game in the Georgia Dome.

As the top-ranked Eagles prepare for the No. 14-ranked Mountaineers Saturday their coaching staff is continuing to patch together a reliable offensive line.

The Georgia Southern Eagles are currently ranked No. 1 at the FCS level, however, despite its accomplishments the team is still working to improve, especially on the offensive line reports The Telegraph's Mike Brown.

"We're a work in progress," said Brent Davis, who is the Eagles' offensive line coach and offensive coordinator.

The Eagles (7-1) host the No. 14-ranked Appalachian State Mountaineers (6-3) Saturday in a Southern Conference football game (2 p.m.), and if Georgia Southern wants to contend for a league championship its offensive line, which has featured eight different starting line combination in each of its last eight games, will need to find itself quickly.

According to Brown, the only constancy on the o-line this season has been right tackle Garrett Frye (6'4, 258 pounds). The sophomore has started in all eight of the Eagles' games.

The rest of the line has been a jumbled mess because of injuries or poor play. If there's one way to knock off the Eagles Saturday it will be taking advantage of this progressing unit.

"We're all going to try and get healthy for App State," Frye said. "This is one of those games that if you get injured, you don't hurt. You just run on fumes.

"If we win this one, we win the conference and will have home-field advantage (in the playoffs). That's big because we're hard to beat in Paulson."

Georgia Southern will be trying to win its seventh consecutive victory on Saturday.

The Atlanta Falcons and Washington Redskins have released their inactives for Sunday's Week 5 contest at FedEX Field. The biggest name on the inactives list for the Redskins is safety Cedric Griffin, who is expected to miss his second straight game due to a hamstring injury.

The official ruling on Griffin makes the Redskins very thin in the secondary, as another safety, Brandon Meriweather, is also on the inactive list. This may not bode well for a defense that's going against a hot quarterback in Matt Ryan.

Other players on Washington's inactive list are: quarterback Rex Grossman, guard Adam Gettis, guard Josh LeRibeus, wide receiver Dezmon Briscoe and linebacker Markus White.

Meanwhile, the Falcons got some good injury news. Center Todd McClure and safety William Moore are both active after being listed as questionable on Friday. However, fullback Lousaka Polite and tight end Michael Palmer will not play.

Other Falcons players listed as inactive are: quarterback Dominique Davis, cornerback Terrence Johnson, offensive tackle Lamar Holmes, defensive end Jonathan Massaquoi and defensive end Cliff Matthews

Running back Todd Gurley rushed for 130 yards and two touchdowns Saturday to help the No. 5-ranked Georgia Bulldogs steamroll the Vanderbilt Commodores, 48-3, in a Southeast Conference showdown at Sanford Stadium. The victory helped keep Georgia's record unblemished at 4-0 (2-0 SEC), while the Commodores dropped to 1-3 (0-2).

Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray completed 18 of 24 passes for 250 yards and two touchdowns, while running back Keith Marshall compiled 82 yards and two touchdowns.

The Bulldogs began the game with 27 unanswered points and carried a 27-3 lead into the halftime. Georgia cemented its win with three third-quarter touchdowns that capped the game's scoring.

The third-quarter scores helped the Bulldogs cover the 15-point spread, while the Commodores lone field goal, which came with 20 seconds to go in the first half, helped cover the over-under (50 points).

Next week, the Bulldogs will host the Tennessee Volunteers (3:30 p.m.), while Vanderbilt will have a bye.

Jair Jurrjens' minor league stint to try and get back to his All-Star self hasn't gone as planned, and with a lot invested in the 26-year old right-hander its seems the relationship between the Atlanta Braves and Jurrjens is starting to become sour -- at least, that's how Jurrjens sees it.

"I understand it’s a business, and they need to do what they need to do," said Jurrjens, less than a year removed from being an All-Star. "But you have feelings, and it hurts when you feel like you’re not wanted somewhere."

For after a month now, Jurrjens has been with Triple-A Gwinnett, where he's compiled an ERA of 5.56 and is 3-3 overall. Those numbers haven't been good enough for the Braves to recall Jurrjens to the big leagues, and when the front office by passed Jurrjens for after sending down Kris Medlen it didn't sit well.

"You hear stuff. When the Medlen stuff happened, people around here, my teammates, were like, ‘Wow, they didn’t even think to call you back up?’ People were asking me, ‘Did they say anything to you?’ It just shows me what I mean to them. It doesn’t feel good, but that’s OK. It’s business."

If Jurrjens want to make it back to major, it seems not only his performance will need to turn around but so will his attitude.

"All I can control is my performance," he said. "If I’m not in their plans, I’ll move on. But I’m not a Triple-A pitcher."

A new generation of Georgia State University athletics was officially sworn in on Monday, as the Panthers joined the Sun Belt Conference in a press conference held at the Georgia Dome. Georgia State move from the Colonial Athletic Association to become the 11th football-playing member of the league, which competes at the Football Bowl Subdivision level.

"This has turly been a banner day for Georgia State athletics and Georgia State University," said Georgia State athletic director Cheryl L. Levick.

Sun Belt commissioner Karl Benson, who was in attendance for the announcement, said the league is looking to expand to 12 football-playing programs by the time expansion is done, as already existing member of the Sun Belt, the University of South Alabama, is also making the jump from a FCS to FBS. Both Georgia State and South Alabama will join the Sun Belt in a transitional period in 2013, and will become eligible in 2014.

"It's still important to us to maintain geographic connections," said Benson about making sure expansion remains regional.

Both Benson and Levick talked about the process of Georgia State joining the Sun Belt, and both admitted that talks began back in January, when Benson was yet named Sun Belt commissioner.

Currently, the only issue surrounding Georgia State's move to the Sun Belt dealing with the Panthers' soccer programs which will not have any conference opponents because the Sun Belt does not have a soccer league.

Levick addressed the issues, saying there are plans A, B and C in place that will help them work through the issue and it will be resolved once the athletic department speaks with the soccer coaching staffs.
