Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith earned his 49th win with the team on Sunday, as the Falcons beat the Oakland Raiders 23-20. He's now tied with Dan Reeves for career wins with the franchise. His 49-21 record is the fifth best mark in NFL history for a coach in his first five seasons with a team. He reached the 49 win mark in 70 games, considerably faster than the 109 games it took Reeves to compile that mark.
Smith and the Falcons are off to a 6-0 start for the first time in franchise history, and will more than likely have a winning season for the fifth straight year, which is also a franchise record. The previous record for best start was 4-0. Smith won the Sporting News' Coach of the Year award in 2008 and 2010, and could very well be in the running for it again in 2012.
