Atlanta Falcons linebacker Sean Weatherspoon will undergo an MRI on Monday for his injured ankle, according to Mike Florio of NBC Sports' ProFootballTalk.com.
Weatherspoon was carted off the field in the fourth quarter of Atlanta's dominant 30-17 win over the Philadelphia Eagles. He injured the ankle attempting to bring down Eagles running back LeSean McCoy. Florio says that the belief right now is that Weatherspoon will be OK and that the ankle injury is a minor one.
Weatherspoon recorded six tackles (five solo) against Philadelphia before exiting the game with the injury. On the season, he has notched 52 total tackles (40 solo) and three sacks. He also has forced and recovered one fumble each.
The undefeated Falcons have the stumbling Dallas Cowboys next up on the docket, and not having Weatherspoon at their disposal would be a blow to the defense. The Cowboys still have plenty of talent on offense and they will be desperate, so the Falcons will want to have their key players available.
