Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith addressed the media on Monday, a day after his Falcons improved to 8-0 on the season by defeating the Dallas Cowboys, 19-13, on Sunday Night Football.

During his press conference, Smith addressed the status of injured linebacker Sean Weatherspoon. Weatherspoon injured his ankle during Atlanta's Week 8 win over the Philadelphia Eagles, and missed Atlanta's Week 9 win over the Dallas Cowboys.

Per Smith, it seems like the Falcons will have a much clearer picture come midweek on Weatherspoon's availability for Atlanta's Week 10 contest against the New Orleans Saints.

"I think we'll know by the end of the week. It may go into if he's closer, it could potentially go into a game time decision, but I think we'll have a pretty good idea of where Sean is on Wednesday or Thursday."

Smith also added that Weatherspoon progressed well last week, and that the team hopes that Weatherspoon will be active next Sunday in New Orleans.

Weatherspoon has recorded 52 tackles so far this season, and has registered three sacks, while forcing and recovering a fumble.

With an 8-0 record, and a playoff spot already secure barring a catastrophic collapse, the Falcons will almost certainly err on the side of caution with the injured linebacker.
