Falcons sign FB Mike Cox, waive Lousaka Polite

The Falcons may be undefeated, but they're still looking for ways to improve. Adding fullback Mike Cox in an attempt to improve their 25th-ranked running game is just the latest measure.

The Atlanta Falcons, in an effort to boost their running game, have signed fullback Mike Cox and have waived fullback Lousaka Polite. The Falcons are currently 25th in the NFL in rushing offense, averaging 98.5 yards per game.

Cox was originally signed as an undrafted free agent in 2008 with the Kansas City Chiefs. He spent three seasons with the Chiefs before signing with the Falcons in 2011. The Falcons released Cox after the 2012 preseason. In his four-year career, Cox has rushed the ball four times for 3 yards and a touchdown, but has also recorded 24 receptions for 133 yards.

Before Polite, a seven-year NFL veteran, was waived, he had caught one pass for 8 yards against the Oakland Raiders on Oct. 14. Through his career, Polite has rushed for 296 yards and a touchdown and caught 42 passes for 241 yards and a touchdown.

The Falcons are preparing to play the New Orleans Saints on Sunday at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on Fox.
