2013 NFL Playoff scenarios: Falcons win clinches home-field advantage

The Atlanta Falcons are on the verge of clinching the top seed in the NFC. What are the ways that the Falcons can clinch?

Scott Cunningham

The Atlanta Falcons have already clinched a spot in the NFL playoffs, but they are on the verge of clinching both a first-round bye as well as home-field advantage through the playoffs. The easiest way for the Falcons to clinch both would be to win this week's game against the Detroit Lions.

As for other ways the Falcons can clinch a first-round bye, they would need either the Green Bay Packers to lose against the Tennessee Titans or the San Francisco 49ers to lose to the Seattle Seahawks. As for home-field advantage, the other ways that the Falcons could clinch is with a tie against the Lions and a 49ers loss or a loss by the 49ers and a Packers loss or tie.

The Falcons play the Lions at Ford Field on Saturday. Kickoff of that game is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPN.
