The Atlanta Falcons made a statement on Sunday, destroying the reigning Super Bowl champion New York Giants 34-0 in the Georgia Dome. The win puts Atlanta at 12-2 on the season, which is tied for the best record in the NFL. Accordingly, the Falcons are tied for second in the Week 16 edition of the SB Nation NFL power rankings, one spot behind the white-hot Denver Broncos.
There is a six-team bunch at the top of the rankings, including the Falcons, Broncos, San Francisco 49ers, Houston Texans, New England Patriots, and Green Bay Packers. An argument could be made for any of those teams to take the top spot, but it clearly indicates that there is no single team running away from the rest of the league this season.
The Falcons face the Detroit Lions on the road on Saturday night, and can clinch the No. 1 seed in the NFC with a win.
