The Georgia Southern Eagles are advancing to the third round of the FCS playoffs after defeating Central Arkansas Bears 24-16.
The Eagles jumped out to a 24-6 lead by halftime off the legs junior running back Jerick McKinnon. McKinnon had two rushing touchdowns in the first half of the game and finished the game with 316 yards off of 34 carries. He also went 2-for-7 passing for 79 yards, a touchdown and an interception.
The Eagles gained a total of 404 yards on the ground, as a team averaging 6.2 yards-per-carry.
Georgia Southern's defense clamped down on Central Arkansas when it was most important. Central Arkansas only converted 3-of-12 third down opportunities and weren't able to get much of an offensive rhythm going all game. They only had possession of the football for 22 minutes compared to almost 36 for the Eagles.
With the win, the fifth seeded Eagles will go onto play the winner between fourth seeded Old Dominion and Coastal Carolina.
