BCS Rankings, Week 9: Auburn Leads College Football Top 25 Standings, Oregon And Boise State Follow

The Auburn Tigers have reached the top of the BCS standings for the first time ever, and are guaranteed a spot in the title game if they beat Ole Miss, Georgia, and Alabama. Oh, and win the SEC. No big deal, Tigers. The Oregon Ducks should be set if they also win out, though we'll have to confer with the BCS gurus at BCS Evolution to see if Michigan State or even Missouri could slip ahead due to strength of schedule. Neither Boise State nor TCU will be slipping ahead of anybody, unless the top-ranked team loses. Like that ever happens!

The machines got this one right, valuing Auburn's resume over Oregon's pizzazz, though a very strong case can be made for either team. They also went and did a thing like including Virginia Tech, who lost to James Madison, though the Hokies are at least a notch or two lower here than in the meat-powered rankings.

Auburn's offense vs. Oregon's ... offense in the national title game. Whether you're an X's and O's junkie or just like to watch the scoreboard spin, that's a game that sounds too good to possibly happen. Would we see 150 snaps in regulation? Over 100 total points? Five hours of championship football?

No. We won't. Just you watch. Somehow this thing will still end up coming down to Ohio State and LSU.

As always, no local teams were ranked, so we're hitching our wagon to Auburn with all we've got due to geographic, conference, and demographic ties. And they're the best team in football.
