The Arkansas Razorbacks’ season hasn’t been quite the ascension fans had hoped for with space elevator QB Ryan Mallett leading one of the nation’s best passing offenses. Still, their only two stumbles were very competitive losses to SEC West teams that have been ranked No. 1 in one poll or another at some point this year. The Hogs should be ranked higher than No. 19, but their only really noteworthy win was a 31-24 last-minute victory over the Georgia Bulldogs in Athens, and that was during Georgia’s preseason month.
The Vanderbilt Commodores have an SEC win, which is about as good as could be expected for a surprise first-year coach at the conference’s most challenged program. The ’Dores have injected (Robbie Caldwell terminology) only ten total points of offense into their losses to the LSU Tigers, Georgia Bulldogs, and South Carolina Gamecocks, but they still have a very reasonable shot at collecting a second when they welcome the Tennessee Volunteer winter invasion forces in a few weeks.
Yes, Mallett will play Saturday. He’s been practicing and says he’s good to go. This means Vandy will not win.
