↵Alligator Army, SB Nation's Florida Gators community, chomped it up on which out-of-conference opponents they'd like to see the Gators play a home-and-home against. The finalists: the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Michigan Wolverines, Oregon Ducks, Utah Utes, and Virginia Tech Hokies. Utah won the vote due to Urban Meyer's connections and the allure of traveling to a state that is absolutely nothing like Gainesville, while Tech, Michigan, and Oregon clustered behind.
The question: if Tech and Florida played, which team would Georgia Bulldogs fans root for? State pride vs. conference pride, y'all.
↵Florida is infamous for refusing to leave the state unless it absolutely has to, scheduling nothing but cupcake home games, in-state sorta-cupcake road games, and the Florida State Seminoles. They haven't played an out-of-conference road game since 2003, when they lost to the Miami Hurricanes. And they haven't left the state for a regular season out-of-conference game since the bronze age of college football in 1991, falling to Syracuse.
↵The Jackets and Gators played a four-game series from 1978 to 1981 when Tech was a floundering independent. They had a decent rivalry during Tech's SEC days, except for when Bobby Dodd was around. Dodd owned the Gators -- from 1956 until Tech left the conference in 1963, Florida only scored on the Jackets in one game.
