Currently ranked fifth in the ACC, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets can likely earn a trip to the Meineke Car Care Bowl on Dec. 31 in Charlotte by beating the Duke Blue Devils and Miami Hurricanes. Or maybe a better bowl, if ACC teams ahead of the Jackets stumble, which never happens in the ACC.
Tech's bowl streak, 13 years long and fourth-best in the country, is in jeopardy, but Tech only needs a win over Duke to at least earn bowl eligibility. Falling below eighth in the ACC would moot all that, but as long as we have Duke, Virginia, Wake Forest, and Boston College around, there really isn't any chance of that happening.
The Muffler Bowl will also welcome the Big East's third-place finisher. The Rutgers Scarlet Knights currently hold down the three spot with a 1-1 conference record, since apparently the Big East really drags its feet at getting that conference schedule going. Not that we blame them.
ESPN is split on whether Tech will face the West Virginia Mountaineers in the Muff, or move ahead to meet the California Golden Bears in the Sun Bowl (loser loses their pre-fight-song song!), while CBS has Tech taking on the Mississippi St. Bulldogs in the Music City.
