South Carolina Gamecocks kicker Spencer Lanning kicked his third field goal as time expired to give the Cocks an eight-point halftime lead over the Florida Gators. Carolina has never won in the Swamp, but a win would send them to the SEC Championship Game in Atlanta to take on the Auburn Tigers. Same story for the Gators, though they’ve won in the Swamp before. All right.
Florida’s brand-new offense has completely fallen apart only two weeks after it was thought up. With two strong performances against the Georgia Bulldogs and Vanderbilt Commodores, it appeared Urban Meyer had figured out how to get his offensive talent to work together effectively, but Florida’s seven points all came on the opening kickoff return by Andre Dubose. The Gators’ offense has 51 whole yards, much of it on a single 22-yard catch by Omarius Hines.
RB Marcus Lattimore is leading the way for Carolina, with 83 powerful yards and a touchdown on 21 carries. QB Stephen Garcia has thrown for 108 with no interceptions, plus an 11-yard scramble of his own.
If Florida can’t re-reinvent its reinvented offense in the next 30 minutes, the Gamecocks will win their first game in Gainesville and their first SEC East title, with their first shot at winning an SEC title.
