Despite the NCAA's investigation into Cam Newton's recruitment history, the Auburn Tigers Heisman frontrunner is playing in today's game against the Chattanooga Mocs. Newton huddled with his offense before taking the field, then took an extra word from Auburn OC Gus Malzahn before lining up in the shotgun. And I've got indisputable visual evidence right here for you:
Newton threw two passes on Auburn's opening drive: one was a 32-yard completion to Terrell Zachary that could've been a touchdown if Zachary hadn't toed the out-of-bounds line, and a 30-yard score to Darvin Adams. And with that, Newton should be more or less done for the day. He'll likely play another drive or two, but with two (and quite possibly three) big SEC games coming up for Auburn, the Tigers should treat this one like a bye week as far as Newton is concerned.
Still, yes: Cam Newton is playing today. That much we know.
