UPDATE: Vandy's director of communications says Gus Malzahn hasn't been hired yet, but that he hopefully will soon.
The Washington Post’s Matt Bonesteel is reporting Auburn Tigers offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn has accepted the head coach offer made by the Vanderbilt Commodores. The offer was reported to be $3 million per year — no word on whether that’s the figure Malzahn is believed to have agreed to.
Malzahn is weeks away from coaching Cam Newton and the Tigers in the BCS National Championship Game. It’s not every year that a team heads to a title game with its Frank Broyles Award-winning coach on his way to a conference opponent, but that’s the report.
Vandy’s other considerations were Maryland Terrapins offensive coordinator James Franklin and Stanford Cardinal associate head coach Greg Roman. If they’ve indeed hired Malzahn, the typically undermanned Dores will have landed one of the nation’s most sought-after coaching prospects.

If Gus Malzahn accepts the Vandy offer, did the Commodores outhire the Gators?
