ACC Bowl Schedule: Miami And Notre Dame To Meet In Sun Bowl

The Miami Hurricanes and Notre Dame Fighting Irish, old Catholics vs. Convicts rivals, will renew hostilities in the 2010 Sun Bowl. The rivalry was one of the 1980s’ greatest, with several meetings helping to decide national championships. Three Canes title runs involved wins over the Irish, and Notre Dame beat Miami in 1988 on its championship campaign.

The two were already set to play three times in the coming years, with a 2012 Soldier Field matchup followed by a home-and-home.

Neither program is quite what it used to be. The Irish posted multiple losing streaks in what was actually their most successful regular season since Charlie Weis’ second year in 2006. And the Canes fired coach Randy Shannon after a loss to the South Florida Bulls.

The Sun Bowl will go down on Dec. 31 in El Paso, Texas at 2 p.m. Neither of these schools has ever participated. In last year’s game, the Oklahoma Sooners beat the Stanford Cardinal.
