2011 Australian Open: John Isner Falls To Marin Cilic In Isnerian Fashion

All good things must end, and that includes SB Nation Atlanta’s coverage of the 2011 Australian Open. Georgia Bulldogs hero John Isner is done, having lost this … morning … or last night … at some point to No. 15 Marin Cilic 4-6 6-2 6-7 (5-7) 7-6 (7-2) 9-7, thus ending our tennis obligations for the time being.

There will be no SEC! chants in Melbourne tonight, except perhaps in Melbourne, Florida.

Isner wasn’t expected to beat Cilic, but he did make the Croatin work for it. As is his style, Isner drew the match on as long as possible, tying up Cilic for well over four hours. Sustaining that kind of wear could put Cilic at a disadvantage for his next match, which could be against No. 1 Rafael Nadal.
