Andy Staples and staff put in work to chart the oversigning being carried out by FBS schools over the past five years. As is custom, Troy leads the way as the nation's most oversigny school, and it will shock no one that the Mississippi Rebels and Auburn Tigers are close behind.
↵Read Staples' column for more on the state of oversigning, if you haven't. Our own Team Speed Kills also offers a basic recruiting jargon primer.
↵The entire SEC West has brought in more talent than it had room for, with the Kentucky Wildcats leading the SEC East. The South Carolina Gamecocks are the only other eastern team that brings in more than 25 players per class. The Florida St. Seminoles are the only ACC team with a history of oversigning.
↵Whether oversigning is unfair to players is up for debate (yes, yes it is very often unfair), but it certainly creates a disadvantage for schools that have long refused to take part, like the Georgia Bulldogs and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. A self-imposed disadvantage, sure, but doing the right thing is like that sometimes.
