Arkansas Beats South Carolina, Giving Georgia SEC Standings Advantage

The Georgia Bulldogs fan entered Saturday with the difficult assignment of rooting for Bobby Petrino's Arkansas Razorbacks. If the Hogs topped the South Carolina Gamecocks, the Dawgs would move into sole possession of the SEC East lead with two games remaining. It wasn't enjoyable, but it was worth it, and once the clock struck midnight we could pretend the whole thing never happened.

Oh, and daylight savings time, too. An extra hour to spend on forgetting.

UGA is now a half-game ahead of South Carolina, which is all it needs. With wins over the Auburn Tigers and Kentucky Wildcats, the Bulldogs will play in the Georgia Dome for the second time this year and would have a chance to spoil an otherwise likely trip to the national championship game by the LSU Tigers, probably.

That game against the Cats can be counted as a sure W, meaning the year that was supposed to be Mark Richt's last now revolves around the Auburn game. It's in Athens, and it doesn't feature Nick Fairley, but Auburn's still put together a record only one game worse than Georgia's despite facing stiffer competition.

Not a bad predicament at all for a team that started 0-2, right?
