Georgia Southern's late charge came up just short as they fell to Eastern Kentucky by a score of 63-59. The Eagles used a late 16-8 run to tie the game at 55-55 all with just 2:29 to play. However, it was Mike DiNunno's tip in with just 38 seconds that put the game out of reach.
Jaron Jones led all scorers with 20 points on 8-13 shooting. Eric Stutz and Jeff Johnson each finished with 10 points for Eastern Kentucky who improved their record to 6-5 and 3-0 at home on the season.
Eric Ferguson led the Eagles with 19 points and four rebounds. Willie Powers added 13 points and a game-high six assists but also had six turnovers. Ben Drayton III chipped in 10 points for the Eagles in the loss. Georgia Southern drops to 3-5 on the season.
Amazingly both teams finished 24-48 from the field and both hit two three point buckets in the game. The difference came from the free throw line where Eastern Kentucky was 13-16 and Georgia Southern was just 9-18.
