Monty Brown scored a team-high 13 points off the bench as the Mercer Bears pulled off a rare 65-59 upset victory over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Georgia Tech led 54-49 with just 4:24 remaining but was outscored 16-5 over the game's final moments.
Brown's 13 points paced four Mercer players in double figures. Bud Thomas turned in a nice all around effort with 12 points, seven rebounds, two assists and three steals. Jakob Gollon finished with 10 points, five rebounds and five assists while Daniel Coursey added 10 points and three blocked shots.
Glen Rice Jr scored a game-high 19 points and added 11 rebounds and three assists. Jason Morris chipped in 10 points. The Yellow Jackets turned it over 15 times in the game.
The game was pretty even across the board but Mercer made up the difference by going 14-21 from the free throw line while Georgia Tech was just 9-13.
