With Auburn defensive coordinator Ted Roof going to UCF, Auburn head coach Gene Chizik said he will take over as defensive coordinator for the Tigers in the Chick-Fil-A-Bowl:

Chizik got his start as a defensive coordinator, winning the Frank Broyles Award for best assistant coach in the nation in 2004 at Auburn, when he coordinated the defense on Tommy Tuberville's 13-0 squad.

He was the defensive coordinator and assistant head coach at Texas in 2005, when the Longhorns went 13-0 and won the national championship in an epic game against USC.

The Tigers defense, which gave up 29.3 points a game, 79th in the nation, hasn't lived up to the standards of his past squads this season, and the game against Virginia will be a chance to right their ship headed into the 2012 season.

In the press conference, Chizik also revealed that he had a short-list of contingency options on hand in case of Roof's departure.
