Jay Rome, Malcolm Mitchell Lead Georgia Signing Day Lunchtime Rush

Jay Rome and Malcolm Mitchell, two of the bigger names on Georgia's commitment list, have made it official by faxing in their signed letters of intent to Athens. The Valdosta teammates both committed to Georgia on the same day and made it official by faxing their letters within minutes of each other. Both players selected the Bulldogs over Alabama.

Rome is a member of the AJC Super 11 and is rated as the No. 3 player in the state. The 5-star prospect is regarded as one of the best tight ends in the nation. Mitchell was viewed as a lock down corner prospect early in his recruitment but after totaling 77 catches for 1,419 yards and 13 TDs swayed Georgia to give him the option of playing on either side of the ball. He may be relied upon to help fill some of the gap that was created when A.J. Green left early for the NFL.

Jay Rome on Georgia:

"Georgia’s a great school, they have great football and it’s known as ‘Tight End U," Rome said. "At the end of the day, I wanted to stay home, stay in-state and get all the in-state love."

Malcolm Mitchell on Alabama and Georgia:

"It was the last-minute official I took [to UGA]," he said. "I really enjoyed myself up there. I enjoyed myself at Alabama as well. They’re both two great programs, but I had to do what I thought was best for me.
