Georgia Tech finally beat Georgia at something besides women’s basketball, with former Yellow Jacket Matt Kuchar beating former Dawg Bubba Watson 2 and 1 at the 2011 Accenture Match Play Championship. On the side of the bracket that anybody not from around here actually cares about, Luke Donald beat new world No. 1 Martin Kaymer 3 and 2 to take the event.
Watson took a 1-up lead after the second hole, but it was all Kuchar from there on out. Watson didn’t win another hole until the 16th, needing to win all the rest just to force extra frames, which didn’t happen.
So, Georgia fans, if Tech fans are curiously unbearable tomorrow morning, now at least you’ll know why. Just say something about, like, football or Paul Hewitt or whatever.
