UPDATE: Jenkins picked Georgia over Florida.
As impressive as Mark Richt’s “Dream Team” of recruits is, it has an opportunity to add yet one more blue-chipper this weekend, when Johnathan Jenkins, a nose tackle out of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in Perkinston, announces his commitment. That’s scheduled to happen this Saturday at 1 p.m. Eastern.
Jenkins, a native of Meriden, Conn., is rated at four stars by Rivals and Scout and checks in at a massive 6’3", 340 pounds — exactly the kind of dominating presence in the middle that Todd Grantham’s 3-4 defensive scheme needs but so far hasn’t quite been able to lock down. As of now the intel indicates that Jenkins will be picking from Georgia, Florida, Miami and Oklahoma State (the last of which he’d committed to before backing off last month).
Will his opportunities for near-immediate playing time at Georgia, combined with the momentum of the Dream Team’s success, be enough to sway him to the Dawgs? Guess we’ll find out this weekend.
