Johnathan Jenkins Commits To Georgia Football Over Florida, Likely Wrapping Up 2011 Class

Georgia Bulldogs football gained another recruit days after 2011 National Signing Day, with prized JUCO four-star DT Johnathan Jenkins choosing the Dawgs over the Florida Gators. The Auburn Tigers and Miami Hurricanes were also in the running, but only UGA and Florida hats were seen displayed in front of Jenkins as he announced his decision.

Now we just need to figure out whether he goes by John, Johnathon, Johnathan, Jonathon, or Jonathan.

Jenkins, a six-foot-four, 340-pounder from Gulf Coast Community College, should be an excellent fit in Todd Grantham’s 3-4 system. Nose tackle is the most critical position in any 3-4 setup, and the lack of interior line talent was one of the defense's biggest weaknesses last year. Plugging Jenkins in at the middle would take pressure off of formerly out-of-position defensive ends and increase the chances of linebackers running free.

Jenkins was offered by at least 15 FBS schools. While he may not qualify as a “Dream Teamer,” per se, as he’s from Mississippi, he’s still an outstanding pickup and the most likely of Georgia’s 2011 class to contribute from Boise State onward.
