Wait, so South Carolina Gamecocks basketball could be even worse? Bruce Ellington, the 14-16 Cocks' best player, is apparently considering a move that would have him playing football for Steve Spurrier this fall, according to a very insistent Post and Courier. This would be just a rumor worth treating as a rumor, but, man, the P&C is really urging you to listen to this one. (Oh, and he's watching spring football practice right now!)
The team leader in points and assists, Ellington projects as a utility offensive weapon for Gamecocks football. Though he has the size to play halfback, Marcus Lattimore has much more of it, and few teams will turn down squirty, versatile athletes with experience leading an offense.
If the freshman point guard crosses campus this summer, as the Post and Courier strongly and personally recommends you assume, Carolina may become a slightly more imposing presence in SEC East football, but is definitely one step closer to joining the SEC West in hoops.
