The totally coincidental rematch between John Isner and Nicolas Mahut doesn't look likely to approach last year's Wimbledon classic, with the former Georgia Bulldogs star Isner winning his first round match 7-6, 6-2, 7-6. Only two hours or so of tennis!
Isner took the contentious first set before achieving an easier time in the second, though Mahut acquired a rare lead in the third frame. Set No. 3 reached a 6-6 tie. Isner had a chance to put away his opponent after producing a 6-5 match point, but of course these things don't come that easy in Isner-Mahut as the big guy put a return right into the net. The would-be epic ended shortly after, bumming everybody out who was hoping for a month-long affair.
Next, the pride of Athens will take on Spain's No. 16 Nicolas Almagro, who's being called a decent matchup for the powerful Isner.
