College World Series, South Carolina Vs. UVA Score: Gamecocks Extend Lead

The South Carolina Gamecocks scrambled to an early 3-0 lead over the Virginia Cavaliers in their long-delayed Tuesday night meeting, tacking on three more runs by the bottom of the fourth inning. UVa finally produced some offense thanks to a one-run homer by C John Hicks, which was chased by a double off the bat of DH Danny Hultzen. It's now 6-1, the champs, at the top of the fifth.

Cavs starter Will Roberts was chased from the mound after just more than three innings after having given up eight hits, a walk and three earned runs. Cody Winiarski has made it through two-thirds of a scoreless inning in relief.

Other than that home run, Colby Holmes has been outstanding, striking out six Hoos (Hoos!). Of course, he's gotten better backup from his fielders than Virginia's starter did, as the Cavs defense has committed a pair of errors.
