The SEC has gone 4-0 against teams from other conferences in Omaha, and the Florida Gators and South Carolina Gamecocks have taken the top spots in their respective brackets -- each will get at least an extra day of rest plus two chances to beat their next opponents. Two Texas teams were the first to be eliminated from the 2011 College World Series, with the California Golden Bears the lone non-southern team to survive the first knockout round.
Florida beat the Vanderbilt Commodores Tuesday morning, 3-1, completing a weather-delayed game from Monday night. Cal followed by sending Texas A&M home, 7-3, to join the Texas Longhorns, and Carolina gave the Virginia Cavaliers their first loss, 7-1, in the main event.
On Wednesday the North Carolina Tar Heels are again playing Vandy, this time for the right to face Florida. In their Round 1 CWS meeting, the Dores walked away with a 7-3 victory. Lot of football scores in here.
