Nike Peach Jam 2011: Georgia Stars Advance, March Into Semifinals

The Georgia Stars AAU team won both of their matchups on Thursday to advance to the semifinals of the 2011 Nike Peach Jam. The Stars defeated the Houston Hoops team in their final game of pool play 65-52 and knocked off Illinois Mac Irvin Fire 76-61 in the quarterfinals.

The Stars had to win their final pool play game against Houston or would have faced the possibility of not advancing due to a tiebreaker scenario. Clemson commit Jarron Blossomgame led the way with 21 points and nine rebounds. Milton High standout Tony Parker added 18 points and nine rebounds in the victory going 9-11 from the floor.

In their quarterfinal match up, Georgia took a one point lead to the locker room at the half before opening things up in the second half against the Mac Irvin Fire. Blossomgame once again led the way with 22 points and five rebounds. Marcus Hunt added 18 points hitting 4-7 three-point attempts. Tony Parker once again controlled the interior with 16 points and eleven boards.

The Georgia Stars will take on the Memphis YOMCA team that includes Southwest Dekalb standout William "Shaq" Goodwin. The semifinals game gets underway at 9 a.m. with the winner advancing to the championship game at 7 p.m. which will be televised on ESPNU.
