Third-string Boise St. Broncos running back Malcolm Johnson suffered a season-ending ACL tear Monday, coach Chris Petersen announced. While Johnson wasn't likely to get very many carries against the Georgia Bulldogs this Saturday, the Broncos will feel his loss on special teams.
This also means both teams have suffered setbacks at the running back position. Very few teams have seen one of their units take as much damage as Georgia's backfield has, from Washaun Ealey to Caleb King to Carlton Thomas to ... oh wow, now Richard Samuel is missing practice. The star showcase will pit Doug Martin against Isaiah Crowell, but let's just hope we can make it to the Dome without any more backs falling to the side for either team.
Johnson was a three-star recruit out of Oregon, but has redshirted a season and spent time on the academically ineligible list.
