Sheldon Dawson Could Be Georgia Recruiting's First 2012 DB Commit

Georgia may be closing in on its first commitment from a defensive back for its 2012 class in Memphis cornerback Sheldon Dawson. Bulldogs defensive coordinator Todd Grantham and secondary coach Scott Lakatos visited Dawson on Wednesday, and the recruit could announce his intentions as early as Monday.

"Right now I think Georgia's the team to beat," Ridgeway coach Duron Sutton said after Georgia defensive coordinator Todd Grantham and secondary coach Scott Lakatos visited Wednesday. "If you ask me, I think that's where he's going. That's what he's told me at the present time."

Other schools in competition for Dawson include Ole Miss, Cincinnati and Ohio State. Mark Richt and Grantham visited Memphis last week so there has been plenty of contact between the UGA staff and Dawson.

The 2012 class has three running backs, but nothing in the secondary yet. Offensive line has also emerged as a sudden concern late, after Chester Brown's scholarship was ruled out due to state immigration policies.

Rivals.com lists Dawson as a Memphis Tigers commit.
