Shortly after spring practice ended, Mark Richt sat down with wide receiver turned cornerback Malcolm Mitchell to discuss the plan for his involvement on both sides of the football during the 2012 season. Richt told the Augusta Bulldog club that the plan for Mitchell was to play defense but to get some reps at offense and prepare to play both ways.
"I told him: You have got to be ready to play defensive back. But anytime they go out and throw and catch you better get reps at receiver, because we want to play you both ways,"
Georgia's secondary is facing suspensions to several key players and Mitchell will be needed to help fill the gap early in the season. The danger comes in taking one of last season's biggest offensive weapons out of the mix to use him defensively. However, the depth at receiver will be better than at cornerback until some of the suspended players do return.
