UGA Football Offseason: Malcolm Mitchell Still Expected To Go Both Ways Come Fall

Georgia's preseason depth chart lists Malcolm Mitchell as a second team cornerback but the dynamic sophomore is expected to spend plenty of time on both sides of the ball once the fall rolls around. Bulldogs quarterback Aaron Murray talked about Mitchell during Tuesday's Pigskin Preview in Macon.

"He just goes back and forth, pretty much," Murray said. "I know he'll be ready. He knows the plays still, will still run all the routes. He knows the footwork, he knows the yardage. He'll be ready to go, offense or defense."

Mitchell spent the entire spring at cornerback preparing for the position switch as the Bulldogs look to overcome the likely suspensions of several key defensive players in the early part of its 2012 schedule.

However, Mitchell emerged as one of the team's most explosive offensive weapons last season and finished with 45 catches for 665 yards and a touchdown despite being slowed by a hamstring injury. With Sanders Commings already suspended for two games and likely suspensions for Branden Smith and Bacarri Rambo looming expect to see a lot of Mitchell on defense in the early going.
