The Davey O'Brien Award is given out each year to the nation's top quarterback during college football's postseason, so it's good news for Clemson and Georgia that both Tajh Boyd and Aaron Murray are listed among this year's candidates on the preseason watch list that was released today.
Boyd is one of seven 2011 semifinalists included on the Watch List. The complete list reads: Matt Barkley (USC), Tajh Boyd (Clemson), Seth Doege (Texas Tech), Landry Jones (Oklahoma), Keith Price (Washington), Denard Robinson (Michigan) and Tyler Wilson (Arkansas).
Boyd threw for 33 touchdowns against 12 interceptions last year as a sophomore for Clemson. He raised his completion percentage from 52 to 59 percent and threw for over 3,800 yards.
Murray also had a monster year as a sophomore for the Bulldogs, throwing 35 touchdowns and only 14 interceptions. Murray is looking to rebound off of a subpar end-of-season display against LSU and Michigan State in the Outback Bowl.
