UGA Football Preseason: John Theus Expected To Compete For Starting Position

There is a lot of uncertainty surrounding Georgia's offensive line for the 2012 season and it sounds like freshman offensive tackle John Theus is going to get plenty of opportunities to win a starting job.

"I think even we as a coaching staff are going to be thrilled to see what he can do," Richt said of a player projected to play tackle. "Theus is just one of those guys that has a very good chance to play as a freshman and possibly even start."

The Bulldogs lost three starters off of last year's offensive line and needs several different players to step up in the competition. No one really distinguished themselves from the pack during the spring. At 6-foot-6, 305 pounds Theus certainly has the size for the job. How quick he catches on to Georgia's offensive schemes will likely dictate how quickly he moves into the lineup.

The preseason depth chart at offensive line has Kenarious Gates and Kolton Houston listed as starters at tackle. Dallas Lee and Chris Burnette have the top two spots at guard and David Andrews at center.
