UGA Football Preseason: Todd Grantham Impressed With Play Of Freshman

Georgia's assistant coaches met with the media on Sunday and defensive coordinator Todd Grantham talked candidly about his freshman who he has been impressed with early in camp.

There has been much talk about Josh Harvey-Clemons and his move from linebacker to safety and Grantham thinks that he and cornerback Sheldon Dawson could see some playing time this season. A trio of outside linebackers including James DeLoach, Josh Dawson and Jordan Jenkins are also making a push for playing time early.

The only freshman defensive player that is likely to redshirt is defensive tackle Johnathan Taylor and that is mostly because of the presence of John Jenkins and Kwame Geathers.

"Johnathan Taylor is a big guy that we're gonna work and develop. But it doesn't make much sense to play him with Kwame (Geathers) and Big John (Jenkins) right now," Grantham said. "So that's a case where we're gonna work and develop him. But we're gonna get him ready for down the road."
