Kelsey Griffin, a high school defensive tackle and one of the top prospects in the state of Georgia, is headed to South Carolina after he verbally committed to the Gamecocks on Tuesday.

Griffin is rated as a 4-star recruit and the No. 12 player in the state of Georgia by Rivas.com. His commitment to South Carolina concludes a strange recruiting process which saw him verbally commit to Georgia only to back track a few hours later after the Bulldogs reportedly didn't accept the commitment.

Shannon Jarvis, Griffin's high school coach, said the defensive tackle had narrowed his choices to Georgia or South Carolina for a while. It appears Georgia moved on as Jarvis said the Bulldogs were no longer recruiting Griffin and he personally hadn't heard from them for three weeks.

With 27 commitments already in the fold, it's likely Georgia simply ran out of spots before Griffin made his decision. Their loss will be South Carolina's gain. The Gamecocks now have 21 verbal commitments in their 2013 recruiting class, including nine from Georgia.
