Georgia Vs. South Carolina: Malcolm Mitchell likely back on offense for good

The wide receiver and sometimes-DB has been playing double duty early this season, as UGA was short several players due to suspensions.

Malcolm Mitchell has done a little bit of everything for the Bulldogs in 2012, playing both sides of the ball and special teams. But now that multiple defensive backs have returned from suspension and thanks to a punt return flub by Mitchell, the wide receiver will stay at his primary position, head coach Mark Richt said Monday:

"Now that we’re back at full strength in that secondary we don’t need Malcolm to play quite as much defense as he was playing in the past," Richt said. "He’s just getting warmed up on offense. …Where before he was defense and help where needed on offense. Now it’s offense and help where needed on defense."

Mitchell moonlighted as a defensive back while Sanders Commings and Bacarri Rambo were lost temporarily for team rules violations. Mitchell had four receptions against Tennessee last week and told reporters that he practice strictly on offense Monday. He's also off punt return duties for the time being, as he was replaced by Rhett McGowan after letting a punt roll to the Georgia 1-yard-line.
