Georgia Southern Vs. Georgia Final Score: Bulldogs win in 45-14 rout

Aaron Murray helped Georgia turn a close game at halftime into a blowout by the final whistle. The junior threw for four touchdowns as the No. 5 Bulldogs crushed Georgia Southern, 45-14.

Georgia (10-1) took a 7-0 lead on its very first possession thanks to a Todd Gurley one-yard touchdown run. But the Bulldogs' offense stalled after the first score, turning the ball over on consecutive drives, and the Eagles (8-3) tied it up on a touchdown run by Jerick McKinnon in the second quarter. A field goal and a touchdown pass from Murray to Malcolm Mitchell late in the quarter gave Georgia a 10-point lead at the half.

After the break, Georgia quickly went to work, scoring touchdowns on all three drives in the third quarter, all from Murray. By the start of the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs had turned the game into a rout.

All told, Georgia racked up 472 yards of total offense. Gurley became the second true freshman in school history to rush for 1,000 yards or more. He finished with 67 yards on 15 carries. The Bulldogs' secondary was able to take the day off, with Georgia Southern attempting only four passes on the day. Instead, the Eagles rushed 58 times for 297 yards, with McKinnon leading the team with 104 yards and two touchdowns on 19 attempts.

Box Score Hero: Murray lit up the scoreboard for the Bulldogs, finishing 18-of-28 for 332 yards and four scores in just three quarters. He watched the last 15 minutes from the bench with the Bulldogs up 31 points.

Rankings Ramifications: The win keeps Georgia in the top five and on track for an SEC Championship game against No. 4 Alabama, as well as a chance at a national championship berth if the Bulldogs can win out.

But Did They Cover? Oddsmakers gave Georgia a 32-point advantage over Georgia Southern, but the Bulldogs just missed by a point.
